FUNNY FAMILY (1986)

Funny Family (1986, Taiwan)

The special effects are cheesy but fun - it's like a cartoon come to life - with people flying around, ghosts, vampires, etc. If I had seen this as a kid, I'd have probably loved it, though as an adult it's all a bit amateurish and goofy (vampires falling down face first into dog poop, bare butts getting bitten, etc.).

Yukari is wearing some kind of tattoo application on her arms, I suspect, to ramp up her Japanese heritage in this part. Her characters name is Tempura.

She doesn’t have a single line of dialogue!

Yukari Oshima

A full hour and 8 minutes into the movie Yukari finally shows up, as a tattooed Japanese athlete named ’Tempura’, the opponent in the tennis match and then the boxing challenge. I kinda like this look! Her fight with Pauline Lan, though short, is a highlight of the movie as Yukari is a ball of super energy - kicking, punching, jumping off the ropes - the camera may be a bit under-cranked here, but the action is still furious and fun.

BOOK OF HEROES (1986)

Yukari Oshima

I’m not exaggerating when I say that, 15 minutes into the movie, Yukari has maybe one of her top ten movie fights, when she takes on five thugs as an exhibition of her talent for the boss. And it’s her second fight of the movie!

BOOK OF HEROES (1986)

Pauline Lan and Yukari Oshima

One of Yukari Oshima’s first films, this Taiwanese cheapie is a convoluted story about a treasure map, with way too many characters chasing it and acting silly. The main bad guy (Yasuaki Kurata) lives in a Scarface-style house and unknowingly has an undercover cop (Yukari), working for him as a hired ass-kicker.

MILLIONAIRE's EXPRESS aka SHANGHAI EXPRESS (1986)

Yukari Oshima hits the big time in Sammo's Star-Studded Spectacle

Yukari's part is pretty short (maybe 3 minutes total screen time in a huge cast) - she plays a ninja with Karata Yasuaki and Hwang Jang-Lee, and looks impressive in both her sword work and her fighting.

Yukari had dreamed of being in Hong Kong Cinema and worked for two years as a stunt person before she got her chance. She auditioned for producers, “..sometimes in hotel lobbies, showing them what I could do…”, until finally, she heard a specific movie was looking for Japanese actresses. It was this movie, and she got the part.

Released in Hong Kong theaters, in January of 1986, this movie is like a Who’s Who of Hong Kong Action Stars from the 70’s and 80’s!
With Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao, Kenny Bee, Olivia Cheng, Eric Tseng, Yuen Wah, James Tien, Corey Yuen, Cynthia Rothrock, Richard Norton, Dick Wei, Lam Ching-Ying, Eric Tsang, Kenny Bee, Sek Kin and Jimmy Wang Yu... Rosamund Kwan, Richard Ng… and of course Yukari Oshima in her first Hong Kong movie!
OUTLAW BROTHERS (1990)

Yukari Oshima

Yukari (as Captain Tequila) shows up about 23 minutes in with her team of cops who infiltrate another chop shop garage. She’s supposed to let her team in through the garage doors, but ends up taking on everyone in the garage herself! A well filmed, well staged fight that looks great!
